Definition

The target audience describes who a campaign is meant to reach, defined by attributes such as age, region, interest and purchase trigger. In influencer marketing it is the starting point of creator selection: what matters is not the size of a community but its overlap with the target audience.

Also known as: Target group, Core audience

From audience to creator selection

A creator's insights show the actual composition of their community by country, age and gender.

A small community with high overlap beats a large one with low overlap.

A common mistake

Audiences get defined by demographics even though the purchase trigger is what explains the decision.

Segmenting by trigger surfaces creators and formats that demographic filters miss.
