Definition: What is a social media strategy?
Over 64 million people in Germany are active on social media - that's 77.1% of the population (as of October 2025) (DataReportal, Digital 2026). So the question is no longer whether your brand is present on social media, but rather how strategically it is. This is exactly where a well-thought-out social media strategy decides whether reach evaporates - or whether it results in measurable growth.
A social media strategy is the structured plan that companies use to build and optimize their presence on social media platforms such as Instagram, YouTube or Twitch. It includes goal setting, channel selection, content planning, community management and promotions. In order to develop an effective social media strategy, companies should first define their target group precisely: Who are the potential customers, what interests do they have and which platforms are they active on? This information helps choose the right channels and create content that really appeals to the target audience.
To do this, companies should regularly conduct analyzes to evaluate the performance of their posts and campaigns. Key figures such as reach, engagement rate and conversion rate show which content is well received and where there is a need for optimization.
